Des Moines Ren Faire 2005poster

NOT CURRENTLY OPERATING: In the past, Iowa was home to as many as six renaissance festivals each year. Some of the events that are no longer operational include:

  • A Renaissance Affaire - Osceola (2001-2003; cancelled just before opening in 2004; announced plans to return in 2005 in a new location, but did not happen. Operator also started a Labor Day Weekend festival in the Amana Colonies where the former Iowa Ren Fest was held before it moved to Spring dates.)
  • Amana Colonies Renaissance Festival - Amana Colonies (2005-2006; operated by the organizer of the A Renaissance Affaire. Was set to open in 2007 but cancelled due to rain.)
  • Mount Vernon New World Faire - Mount Vernon (history unknown)
  • My Waterloo Days Ren Faire - Waterloo (????-2003; no longer a part of My Waterloo Days; rumors to have the event in 2004 at a different location did not come true; currently a new Waterloo-area event is being discussed, under new management)
  • Nishna River Ren Faire - Avoca/Hancock (2002-2003; NRRF Inc.)
  • Nodaway Corn Carnival Ren Fest - Nodaway (2005-2006? A small event held in conjunction with a local event.)
  • Okiboji Ren Fest - Okiboji (1996-1997; held in hot August; organizer continues to run Iowa Ren Fest and Des Moines Ren Faire)
  • Quest for the Holy Grail - Des Moines (2006; New World Festivals. Annonced by ever happened.)
  • Salisbury Faire - Des Moines (1996-2002; Salisbury House Foundation currently has no plans to continue)
  • Wybreg Village Ren Fest - Bonaparte (1999-2000, other events through 2003 including two events in Des Moines that never happened; Renaissance Foundation became Wybreg Foundation, and is no longer operational)
